A WAVE OF HOPE

Mehri, 39, lives in the rugged mountains of Tajikistan. For two decades, she has devoted her life to taking care of her family while her husband works construction in far-away areas. In this challenging environment, she struggled daily to procure clean drinking water. While she previously bought or fetched water from the river, the draught and the village’s remote location made this increasingly difficult.

Despite these circumstances, Mehri remained steadfast and resolute in her determination to improve the living conditions of her family and fellow villagers. She sent requests to the concerned local authorities, but they were not prepared to pay for a new water system.

Water scarcity continued until the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) intervened and implemented several projects to provide potable water in the village. This radically transformed and improved the living conditions of the village residents, as clean water became readily available in their homes.

Suqia’s intervention extended beyond providing water. It spread a wave of joy and hope that enveloped Mehri and her entire community.
